Virginia Tech celebrates the legacy of
Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

January 15 - 21, 2006

This Spring 2006, marked the first time that Virginia Tech did not hold classes on Dr. Martin Luther King Day. In addition, this was the first effort to expand activities recognizing the King holiday university-wide and into the larger community. Under the leadership of the Commission on Equal Opportunity and Diversity, a number of university and community groups came together to help make this celebration happen.

As part of the Celebration, Virginia Tech and the Montgomery County-Radford City-Floyd County Chapter of the NAACP sponsored a Poster and Essay contest for elementary, middle and high school students in Montgomery County and within other areas of the Commonwealth.

All events were FREE unless otherwise noted and were open to the public. Certain events required Tickets which were available at the UUSA Ticket office located in Squires Student Center.
